Scholarships and bursaries
Scholarships
Our Scholarship Programme celebrates exceptional talent and is designed to nurture and support boys in their areas of strength throughout their time at Tonbridge. Scholars are encouraged to participate actively in all aspects of School life, embodying the values and spirit of our School community. We offer Academic, Art, Design Technology and Engineering, Drama, Music and Sports Scholarships. Applications are open to boys joining the School in Year 9. Boys applying for these scholarships must already hold an Unconditional Offer of a School place before sitting a scholarship assessment in Year 8. Candidates may apply for multiple awards. Music and Sport Scholarships are also available for boys joining the Sixth Form.
Bursaries
Financial assistance is available following means-testing of up to 100% of fees with a package for additional support where necessary. Successful applicants are awarded a Foundation Award. Each year up to 10 Junior Foundation Awards are made in March of Year 6, with financial help available in some cases to fund boys into Year 7 and 8 at Prep School. Financial assistance is currently only available to boys residing in the UK.
A-level performance
Value-added and attainment indicators for sixth-form students (England). Figures are for context; always confirm with the school.
Progress Score
These figures tell you how much progress students who studied A levels at this school or college made between the end of key stage 4 and the end of their A level studies, compared to similar students across England. These scores are also known as 'value added' scores.
The scores are calculated by comparing the A-level results of students at this school or college with the A level results of students in schools and colleges across England who started with similar results at the end of the previous key stage – key stage 4.
A score above zero means students made more progress, on average, than students across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 4. A score below zero means students made less progress, on average, than students across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 4.
Average Result
This tells you the average grade that students achieved per A level entry.
AAB (with ≥2 Facilitating Subjects)
Facilitating A levels are ones that are commonly needed for entry to leading universities. They are: biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, further mathematics, geography, history, English literature and classical or modern languages.
